The Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art (VB, artistic director Neringa Bumblienė) has been invited to take part in the international live arts festival PERFORMISSIMA 2, taking place on 24 October 2025 in Paris. The festival will feature -lalia, a performance by artists Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė, which was part of the VB23 programme.
The Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles / Paris, also known as the Vessel, presents the 2nd edition of PERFORMISSIMA, its international live arts festival, which will take place on Friday, October 24th, 2025, from noon to midnight, both In-Situ and Hors-Les-Murs.
Prototypical and deliberately undisciplined, PERFORMISSIMA stands as an invitation to collective experience and is distinguished by its anatomy and non-alignment with standardized temporalities. A feast of forms, this xeno-festival approaches like a rhapsody of impetuous acts, an ode to the live arts in their most unpredictable and audacious forms.
Co-produced with a network of international and cultural institutions, PERFORMISSIMA sketches a contemporary transnational trajectory of the plural regimes of performativity.
For this second edition, new alliances with festivals and institutions engaged in similar approaches enrich the programming: Festival XS / Théâtre des Tanneurs from Brussels, École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris from Paris, Institut Français from Paris, ISO from Amsterdam, MIR Festival from Athens, Nouveau Grand Tour from Italy, Festival OFFTA / La Serre from Montreal, SHORT THEATER Festival from Rome, Villa Albertine from the United States, and Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art from Vilnius.
Performance -lalia by Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė is inspired by the legendary figure Południcam borrowed from Slavic folklore, which poses a metaphor for our contemporary anxieties related to ecological and social unease. The combination of text, video and digital doubling creates a setting that is at once archaic and futuristic.
